LearnHigher social learning space at Liverpool Hope

The LearnHigher capital funding at Liverpool Hope was combined with capital funding from the Write Now CETL to develop a number of three new learning spaces. These learning spaces all have a different ‘feel’ to promote different types of learning. However, they do all benefit from wireless networking and print facilities and all offer a comfortable working environment. All the spaces are promoted to students under the Student Success Zone brand.

Two of the areas promote group work with areas to practise presentations etc. The third area is aimed at quieter individual study but it does offer a group space that allows quiet discussion about common tasks.

The Zone’s main location has a reception that is staffed from 9am until 8pm during term time and is therefore able to offer laptop loan facilities. In addition to reception this area is also home to a number of student support services. The intention here was to break down the barriers between students and the support offered to them. The pictures below show all three areas.

Using the Centre

These pictures show the LearnHigher space as a part of the new 'Student Success Zone'. The social learning space is designed for students to work in groups, practise presentations and access a range of resources to support their learning development.

In September 2010 the University will open a new building to house its Education Faculty and its business support and innovation activities. These learning spaces have influenced the thinking regarding the internal design of this new building.
